Case Study
Overview
A React Native attendance app for Bucas Grande Foundation College and the Division Schools Press Conference. Gate staff scan student QR codes to mark presence in real time, with offline capture and auto-sync when the connection returns — so attendance still works in low-signal school venues.
Ownership
Solo-built the mobile attendance system used at BGFC and at the Division Schools Press Conference — scanning, validation, offline storage, and Firebase sync.
Constraints
School gates and DSPC venues often have unreliable connectivity, so attendance could not depend on a live network. Duplicate scans for the same student on the same day also had to be blocked, or the record would be unusable for official attendance.
Key Decisions
Built as an Expo React Native scanner with Firestore as the source of truth, and AsyncStorage as an offline queue that auto-syncs on reconnect — rather than requiring a web dashboard or always-on internet at the gate.
Impact
Used for school-gate attendance at BGFC and for on-site check-in at the Division Schools Press Conference, replacing paper-based roll call with a scan-and-sync flow that still works offline.
