SOEMCO Voting System
Project #7

Case Study

SOEMCO Voting System

Overview

A cooperative election platform for SOEMCO members — anonymous ballots, on-site kiosk voting, multi-branch eligibility, and certified results with a full audit trail. Built so board elections can run with the same accountability as a paper vote, without the paper. Live at soemco-election.localwebventures.net.

Ownership

Solo-built the production voting system used by SOEMCO — member ballots, kiosk mode, branch management, results certification, and audit logging.

Constraints

Cooperative elections have to stay anonymous and defensible: one vote per eligible member per position, no way to trace a ballot back to a person, and a record the election committee can certify. Voting also had to work on-site at branches, not only from members' own devices.

Key Decisions

Separated member identity from the ballot with unique vote tokens, and added a dedicated kiosk flow (branch manager unlocks the station, member casts, next member steps up) instead of treating every vote as a logged-in web session. Roles — Member, Board, Election Committee, Branch Manager, Admin — gate who can nominate, vote, oversee, and certify.

Impact

Live at soemco-election.localwebventures.net as SOEMCO's working election system, covering member voting, on-site kiosks, live results, and committee certification.
